“The Path to Self-Build Success” - a home study course
“The Path to Self-Build Success” is an online course, split into 12 modules and I will take you through the entire process step-by-step, sharing my knowledge and experience with you. The course can be done from the comfort of your own home, at a pace to suit you, allowing you to do as much as time permits. I will host weekly coaching calls, creating a community where everyone can have their questions answered and benefit from each other’s learnings.

A Bit about my Career
I have worked in the Construction & Architectural sector for over 45 years, including a stint on the “other side of the fence” in Building Control with a Local Authority.
A desire for a career change led me to working with a Canadian Investment company as a Property Manager. Was made redundant due to the Canadian holding company getting into financial difficulty.
I set up my own architectural consultancy business in 1985, mostly carrying out domestic extensions and new house build projects. Whilst working on an architectural project for Scotframe Timber Engineering Ltd their MD asked if I was interested in joining them.
Scotframe were (and indeed still are) the UK’s No1 supplier of timber frame homes to the self-build sector so without hesitation I joined them in 1991.
As Sales Director, I had responsibility for presenting hundreds of seminars at the various self-build shows run by the Homebuilding & Renovating & Build It magazines throughout the UK. I have also contributed numerous articles for trade publications, presented to the Scottish Government on the importance of the self-build sector in helping to address the chronic housing shortage, and was the deputy chairman of the Structural Timber Associations (STA) self-build committee. The fun stuff was being involved with various TV programmes including My Flatpack Home, DIY SOS and appearing on BBC TV’s DIY Donnie programme.
I resigned from Scotframe in April 2017 to devote more time to realise my ambition to develop the UK’s best and most comprehensive self-build training course.
Current positions
I am currently on the Homebuilding & Renovating magazine’s ‘Ask The Expert’ panel at shows, where I present seminars as well as provide free expert advice to self-builders, and people carrying out extensions and renovations.
I have an extensive network of building professionals, manufacturers, suppliers, finance providers, warranty providers & other professionals that I can call upon to help deliver a cost effective self-build.
When you are further into the planning and build process I can also provide one-to-one consultancy should you require help with any aspect of your self-build project.
